For many years, EUROPLASMA has been working on hazardous waste destruction using the high temperatures provided by its high-power blown arc plasma torches. Tests were performed on low radioactive waste, chemical weapons, medical waste, organic chlorides.

Today, incineration of waste of all kinds is the most common treatment throughout the world, as it is easy to set up and operate. But some kinds of waste are difficult to treat through this process, like sewage sludge or hazardous industrial waste.

The development of plasma torch technology has opened new perspectives for the treatment of such waste. Applied to hazardous waste, plasma technology displays the following, very differentiating advantages :

• High security process
  Thanks to the high temperature (1500 °C), hazardous organic matter is completely and definitively eliminated.
  Nothing remains unburnt.
  The process can be stopped and restarted easily, eliminating the need for large waste storage and eliminating risks. 
• A sustainable solution 
  Minerals and metals are melted into a non-hazardous, reusable material that can be recycled for road construction or civil works and does not need to be put in landfill.

  with a small furnace (5 times smaller than an incinerator), and with a smaller emission volume to treat.
