Renewable energy production

Galacsy

The EUROPLASMA R&D department is working with the French atomic energy agency (CEA) to demonstrate the technical and economic validity of a biomass gasification process using plasma technology and producing second generation biodiesel.

This industrial production of synthetic fuel from whole plants (lignocellulose) aims to maximize the oil equivalent for a fixed resource of available lignocellulose. This bold project has the specific goal of working on the conversion of solid and liquid biomass.

The object of the GALACSY core process is to break up lignocelluloses molecules into a synthesis gas (syngas) primarily made up of CO and H2. The direct and/or indirect attack of the biomass by plasma will depend on the study and modelling of the plasma/biomass/syngas coupling, the modelling of reactional phenomena and the recycling of the syngas and by-products generated by such a unit.
