As fly ashes, asbestos is a hazardous waste that can be vitrified and recycled.
Since 2001, EUROPLASMA is owner and operator of an 8000 t/year asbestos waste vitrification plant: Inertam (Morcenx - France). 
 

For over a decade, INERTAM has developed the world's sole industrial vitrification process by plasma torch, ensuring the complete destruction of asbestos waste.

After being controlled and crushed, asbestos waste is injected in the furnace heated by 3 plasma torches: 2 torches with a 2 MW maximum power and one torch with a 500 kW maximum power.
To limit maintenance and damage, the asbestos loading and slag extraction devices are the only moving parts. The furnace walls are covered with very specific refractory materials adapted to the waste composition.

Through an extremely fast and strong thermal reaction on the product to be treated, the plasma allows the vitrification and the total destruction of asbestos fibres.
